Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

The aim of MBBS course of USTC is to make skilled and efficient health professionals and also to enable them to adapt to ever changing environment. Health management is a complex matter. Surviving in this profession requires tremendous skill, temperament, passion, vision and above all high quality knowledge in modern medical sciences. For above reasons USTC planned for MBBS programme to develop the intellectual setup, skills and knowledge of the students so as to enable them to meet the needs of the community.

Teaching Facilities

MBBS course is a five-year programme. The academic plan of MBBS programme in USTC is based on UGC and BM&DC approved course and curriculum in which lectures are supplemented by tutorials, demonstrations and practical laboratory assignments. Sufficient lecture halls, tutorial rooms and laboratory facilities are available for all the departments.

Hospital Facilities

USTC has its own hospital named Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital (BBMH). The seven storied 250-bed Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital has all the facilities which are essential for a modern general hospital. After being satisfied Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) recognized Bangabangdhur Memorial Hospital for offering post graduate training in Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Pathology and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Again Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council after their inspection has given the permission for opening MD (Pediatrics) course under USTC in Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital. Within a short period Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital proved its acceptability to the community and day by day the number of admitted patients as well as out-patients is increasing. USTC authority realized the situation and decided to set up 500-bed Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital Unit-II. Very soon its construction works will finish.

Laboratory Facilities

Laboratory facilities for Basic Sciences viz Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine exist as per requirement of BM&DC. Facilities are now being expanded for out-patients and indoor patients.

Admission

Students having a minimum total GPA 8 in SSC and HSC (with Biology) or equivalent (these criteria being reviewed by the Government of Bangladesh every year) may apply for admission into MBBS course. Individual GPA must not be below 3.5. Selection is on merit basis. The selection process comprises a written and a viva voce examination. The written test is based on HSC level Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and General Knowledge. Foreign students are to submit application direct to the Office of the Founder Vice Chancellor, USTC through mail/email/fax. Admission Forms and relevant papers are available from Bangladesh Missions abroad. Local applicants may obtain those forms from authorized Banks in Dhaka & Chittagong.
