Doctor of Medicine (Paediatrics)

University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) has a very humble beginning with only two medical Faculties way back in 1992. Its seed IAHS started functioning in two tin-sheds with only 42 students, 10 members of the teaching staff and few class III & IV employees in 1989. It made a phenomenal development within a very short span of time. It has now seven magnificent multistoried buildings, dormitories and two international male and female hostels for overseas students. At present it has over 300 hospital beds of which 110 beds are in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. It has facilities for all modern investigations and treatment which can be comparable to any Medical Institute of South Asia. A 22 storied hospital complex is nearing completion with 500 beds which will accommodate most of the subspecialties of modern medical science. It has nearly more than 200 highly proficient teachers, doctors and well-equipped library. Our Faculty of Medicine has been recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), Nepal Medical Council, Sri Lanka Medical Council, American Medical Council, British General Medical Council, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and other Medical Councils of Europe. The background of this promising institution shall suffer from serious inadequacy if we fail to mention the name of National Professor Dr N Islam. He is an internationally famous Physician and Professor, sincere social worker who dreamed of this institution. It is he who conceived the idea of this University. By dint of his foresight, relentless efforts and tremendous sacrifice, he guided the institution to its present enviable position. His missionary and visionary zeal and great commitment to the cause of medical education has made him legend in his own life time. Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, USTC was established in 1994 and formally opened by Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, on 05 March of 1998. Since then it has developed a high standard in management of patients and academic atmosphere. As a result this department has been recognized by Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) for FCPS Part I & II training courses and examination and also for other postgraduate training in Pediatrics and Child Health. This department has been recognized by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council for MD (Paediatrics) course and examination from January 2000 session.
