Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biochemistry & Biotechnology

With the aim of expanding quality education in Biochemistry and Biotechnology and to expose the students to the latest development in the rapidly changing Biotechnological and Genetic Engineering arena, USTC, the largest private University in Bangladesh, took the bold step of establishing the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology under the Faculty of Basic Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. At present the Department is offering BSc (Hons) course in Biochemistry and Biotechnology and also MS Programme in Biotechnology. The Department functions according to the Internal Rules and Regulation of the Faculty of Basic Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences within broad framework of the policies, statutes and guidelines of the USTC.

Teaching Methodology

Teaching Facilities

An academic plan based on the approved course and curriculum has been put into operation. All lectures are supplemented by tutorials, demonstaration and laboratory assignment. Students are required to take part in direct academic discussion and seminar. Sufficient lecture halls, turorial rooms and laboratory facilities are available for the Department.

Laboratory Facilities

At present the Department has three well-equipped sophisticated academic, clinical and research laboratories on Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Immunology and Microbiology where students will have hand-on experience in these subjects. To give the students latest information on Biotechnology, internet facilities are there in the Department.

Admission

Students having minimum GPA 2.5 in SSC & HSC individually in Science or two A-Levels with C grade or equivalent with Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics may apply for admission into the BSc (Hons) course in Biochemistry and Biotechnology. Selection process comprises of a written test and a viva-voce. Written test is based on HSC level Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, English and General Knowledge. Foreign students are to submit application direct at the Office of the Founder Vice Chancellor, USTC. Admission Forms and relevant papers are a available form Bangladesh Mission abroad. Local applicants may obtain forms from authorized Banks in Dhaka and Chittagong.
