Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS):
The aim of MBBS course of USTC is to make skilled and efficient
health professionals and also to enable them to adapt to ever changing environment.
Health management is a complex matter. Surviving in this profession requires
tremendous skill, temperament, passion, vision and above all high quality
knowledge in modern medical sciences. For above reasons USTC planned for MBBS
programme to develop the intellectual setup, skills and knowledge of the students
so as to enable them to meet the needs of the community.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) (Paediatrics):
University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) has a very
humble beginning with only two medical Faculties way back in 1992. Its seed
IAHS started functioning in two tin-sheds with only 42 students, 10 members
of the teaching staff and few class III & IV employees in 1989. It made
a phenomenal development within a very short span of time. It has now seven
magnificent multi—storied buildings, dormitories and two international
male and female hostels for overseas students. At present it has over 300
hospital beds of which 110 beds are in the Department of Paediatrics and Child
Health. It has facilities for all modern investigations and treatment which
can be comparable to any Medical Institute of South Asia. A 22 storied hospital
complex is nearing completion with 500 beds which will accommodate most of
the subspecialties of modern medical science. It has nearly more than 200
highly proficient teachers, doctors and well-equipped library. Our Faculty
of Medicine has been recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), Nepal
Medical Council, Sri Lanka Medical Council, American Medical Council, British
General Medical Council, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and other Medical
Councils of Europe.
Diploma in Medical Ultrasound Diagnosis (DMUD):
Bangladesh Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine & Research (BIUMR)
is a Constituent Institute of University of Science & Technology Chittagong
(USTC) with a separate Board of Governors and situated in Dhaka.
The course of study of 'Diploma in Medical Ultrasound Diagnosis' extends
over twelve calendar months. During this time candidates are required to attend
(a) a lecture series as per Part-I on Basic Principles & Part-II on Clinical
Ultrasonography of Course Curriculum of DMUD course, (b) in the Training Centres
of the Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine & Research or in any other
centres recognized for the purpose by the Institute. Course & Curriculum
of the DMUD is printed in a separate booklet.
Family Medicine Diploma (FMD):
Family Physicians provide care in the community for people and their
families of all ages regardless of their sex or income. As the first port
of call for virtually all health related problems, the Family Physician is
at front line of health service. He or she deals with 90% of all illness,
both in the chamber and in patients' homes.
The recognition of Family Medicine as a speciality in its own right developed
simultaneously in the United Kingdom, in Europe and in the whole world. Family
Medicine is a specialised discipline of medical practice just as Cardiology,
Nephrology Gerontology, etc.
